Late to countless milestones

But of any to arrive early to

I chose puberty

And reaching my fullest height

Study for hours

To pass a single test

But never quite enough

For teachers to notice

Asked to dances but never dates

Praised, kindly spoken of

But all behind my back

And never to my face

Fighting invisibility

I meddle in any good cause

And learned how easily

I can disappear without a stir

Scream a little louder

Just to be heard

Bear emotions in black ink

Just to be seen

I’ll never be the shiniest diamond

Or the first chosen

I either fall in love with ordinary

Or I’ll never be content.
